Turk Prosecutor Moves to Ban Virtue Party
ANKARA, Turkey -- Turkey's top prosecutor Vural Savas opened a
case today to ban the Islam-based Virtue Party for allegedly trying
to overthrow the country's secular constitution and replace it with
Islamic law, the state-run Anatolian news agency said.
The party has been the focus of fierce attacks from secularists
since Merve Kavakci, a Virtue Party member recently elected to
