'Butterfly Lady' shares passion/ Beauty, life cycle captivate woman

Karen Niknami is a butterfly fanatic, and she has the wings to prove it.

Niknami is an amateur lepidopterist - someone who studies broad- winged insects. It's a heavy word for such a light subject, and she teaches her neighbors and schoolchildren about the subject.

Occasionally she puts on her homemade butterfly costume for the lessons.

"She's wonderful," said Kelly Wilfling, a second-grade teacher at Prairie Hills Elementary School, where Niknami has spread the word about butterflies.

"We call her 'The Butterfly Lady.'"
