Michael Breitstein looks like any other 16-year-old.

The Air Academy junior smiles, revealing a full set of braces, and laughs as he struts across the pool deck that has been a second home since he took his first swim lessons at age 3. Standing 6-foot- 1 with a lanky physique and size 13 feet, Breitstein could pass for any teen-ager.

Except for the scars. One sneaks up his inner right thigh. Another stretches across his stomach.
