Elbert pulls away from Agate with strong second quarter

STRASBURG - Elbert's boys basketball team made short work of Agate in Class A regional play Saturday afternoon, winning 77-41. Elbert (21-1) advanced to the state tournament Thursday at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo.

After a close first quarter, Elbert took over in the second. Agate (14-7) played zone against the Bulldogs and suffered when junior Brendan Hermes and sophomore T.C. Olson each made 3-pointers. Elbert dominated defensively, forcing turnovers and gaining fast- break points after multiple Agate miscues. Agate was outscored 21-6 in the quarter.
