Modern dance may never recover from Martha Graham.
Her revolutionary choreography - gut-wrenching, body-contorting,
angular and direct - lifted her to goddess-like heights. She became,
and remains, the mother of American dance.
In the early 20th century, Graham dared to fuse female sexuality
with high art, extraordinary athleticism with emotional hunger and
intelligence. She brought in theatrical lighting and designed her own
