VA Report Says Regional Office Is in Chaos

An internal report sharply criticizes the performance of the Washington regional office of the Department of Veterans Affairs, saying the office is in chaos and has neglected area veterans, leaving thousands of disability claims lingering.

The disarray in the office, which VA officials said was largely caused by mismanagement, has created major problems, resulting in pensions that have been cut off because of stalled paperwork and disability claims that have been ignored for months. Officials are investigating to find out why the backlogs occurred.
