Multiple personalities, like those claimed by Charles Daugherty, are controversial and difficult to diagnose and treat.

Some therapists question whether the disorder exists. Others, such as Dr. John Fleming, medical director of Cedar Springs, A Psychiatric Hospital, believe there are verifiable cases. But Fleming says claims of multiple personalities should be view suspiciously.
