Joffrey faces life after Arpino; Company co-founder stepping down as artistic director July 1, and search for his successor is in high gear

It is the end of an era. But it also is the first page of the
next chapter in the remarkable history of the Joffrey Ballet -- one
of the great American dance institutions.
Effective July 1, Gerald Arpino, a co-founder, choreographer and
artistic director of the Joffrey Ballet, will be named artistic
director emeritus of the company he established 50 years ago with
Robert Joffrey. A major international search for his successor is
now under way.
