Two adventurers were hours away from capturing one of the world's
most tantalizing aeronautical prizes as they hurtled over the
Atlantic and crossed the coast of Africa early today, aiming to
become the first pilots to circle the globe nonstop in a balloon.
Bertrand Piccard of Switzerland and Brian Jones of Britain, flying
a 20-story, helium-filled silver balloon called Breitling Orbiter 3,
completed their Atlantic crossing at about 2:05 a.m. (EST) as they
rode the jet stream eastward ...
