UNION CITY -- Like every other auto repair shop owner at Union Square, Juan Jimenez doesn't know if the first person who walks through his door Thursday will hand him car keys or eviction papers.

The eight shop owners have until Wednesday to move out so the property owner, AvalonBay Communities, can start developing two five- story apartment buildings on the site immediately southwest of the BART station.
