Iris Murdoch, 79, a prolific master of the modern British novel
whose intricately structured and enthusiastically received works
embodied the concepts and conflicts of philosophy and psychology,
died Feb. 8 in Oxford, England.
No cause of death was announced, but Dame Iris had suffered for
years from Alzheimer's disease, a condition she once believed to be
writer's block, it was said.
