Salvage company branches into Burns Flat

An airplane salvage company plans to set up shop at the former Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base near Burns Flat.

AVCentral of Wellington, Kan., is moving equipment and tooling into a 32,000-square-foot hangar on the base this week, with an eye toward opening in March.

"We hope to get started very soon, but realistically, the first airplane won't land there much before April 1," said Bert Davison, vice president for corporate development for the parent corporation, Victory Alliance. "Our plans are initially to have 16 employees and grow from there."
