Methane May Turn from Dangerous to Profitable
|
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. _ Coal miners know methane gas as their
enemy underground. It has always threatened to poison them, or
blow them up.
But federal and industry researchers say capturing methane can
be friendly to the industry and the environment.
"By capturing the gas and doing something with it, besides
venting it to the atmosphere, you're able to minimize the cost
and maybe even make some money on it," said Jeffrey Schwoebel,
vice president of Resource Enterprises Inc. of Salt Lake City.
