Rising over Catholic University and the Washington Hospital Center
nearby is the world's eighth largest church and the largest Catholic
church in the Western Hemisphere, the National Shrine of the
Immaculate Conception.
But the art-filled basilica is still unfinished. In November 1999,
the 80-year building project drew a step closer to completion with
the installation of Silver Spring sculptor George Carr's 38-ton, 750-
square-foot marble relief "The Universal Call to Holiness."
