The peanuts found in large barrels in stores at this time of year
are likely to be especially fresh. Harvest of Virginia peanuts begins
in September and continues into November. The nuts must be dried and
cured before they head out to stores, putting the freshest harvest
into consumers' hands--and mouths--in fall and early winter.
Of course, they'll keep longer, which is one reason peanuts are
available much of the year.
