Pollution Drops with Rise in Nation's Prosperity, Study Says

WASHINGTON _ A study correlat- ing economic development and air pollution has concluded that pollution tends to diminish as a country's eco- nomy grows beyond a certain level of prosperity.

The study, which taps international pollution data not readily known to economists, also finds that patterns of American investment in Mexico do not indicate an effort by companies to avoid pollution controls in the United States.
