PROFITS BY PUBLIC FIRMS RISE FIRST TIME IN A YEAR

A 140 percent jump in profits to $340.7 million, marking the first increase in four quarters, was posted for the third quarter by Oklahoma's largest publicly-held corporations.

About 55 percent of the firms improved on their profit levels, the first time a majority of firms did so in the last 34 quarters.

Of the 49 companies surveyed, 18 had a bottom line in the red. Profit margins more than doubled rising to 3.7 percent over the 1.6 percent recorded a year earlier.
