ECONOMIC GROWTH LIMITED TO 3 PERCENT FOR 1989

WASHINGTON (AP) - A fourth quarter slowdown limited U.S.
economic growth to 3 percent in 1989, the smallest rate in three
years, the government said Wednesday.
The Commerce Department said the fourth-quarter gross national
product rose 1.1 percent from October through December, the slimmest
quarterly advance in three years. It was up slightly from the 0.9
percent gain estimated last month. The department's initial
estimate in January was 0.5 percent.
