REQUEST TO MOVE BANK OF ENID BLOCKED

An attempt by a northern Oklahoma banking firm to enter a new banking market was blocked Wednesday by the Oklahoma Banking Board.

The decision was made in the final moments of an all-day hearing in a conference room packed with bankers and lawyers.

The blocked attempt had been made to stave off further economic decline at the Bank of Marshall, a $5 million bank serving a north-central Oklahoma community of about 400 people. The bank had applied to relocate in Enid, a city of 55,000 people about 23 miles away.
