ECONOMIC IMPACT FROM FORT SILL CONTINUES TO INCREASE

recent years as a result of the U.S. budget reductions, the economic
impact of Fort Still on the Lawton economy has continued to rise.
An increase of 1.7 percent to $781 million in spending that
affects the Lawton area has been projected for the fiscal year to
end Sept. 30, 1989, by Fort Still, a 120-year old U.S. Army post now
commanded by Maj. Gen. Raphael Hallada. That's up from $768 million
in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30.
The direct impact for this fiscal year impact includes a payroll
of about $360 million, or 46 percent of the total, for about 19,000
military personnel, ...
