NO-FAULT INSURANCE COULD SEE TEST IN ONTARIO

If California is the wave of the future, auto insurance
companies are going to have to learn how to swim underwater.
Furious with the doubling of rates since 1982, Californians just
voted to roll back premiums by 20 percent and allow an elected
insurance commissioner to set them in the future.
But the ballot plan is a focus for frustration, not a practical
way to tame premium inflation. While many insurers have sufficient
cash to survive the initial 20 percent hit, rates won't stay low for
long unless accident losses are reduced.
