FRONTIER'S FATE STILL IN HOLDING PATTERN / RUMOR OF BUYER SURFACES

Frontier Airlines' planes were grounded, the company's 4,700
employees weren't working, but the Denver-based carrier's fate was
still in a holding pattern Tuesday.
The latest in a chain of rumors involving financially destitute
Frontier was that parent company People Express Inc. might be trying
to sell itself, as well as its troubled division, to United Airlines.
In Newark, N.J., People Express announced that Frontier deferred
until today filing for protection under the Bankruptcy Code, pending
exploration by People Express of other possible alternatives for
immediate implementation.
