Subdivision Grading Threatens Trench Near Ball's Bluff

They don't look like much anymore, but 50 yards of a Civil War-
era trench and a section of an even older roadbed southeast of Ball's
Bluff Regional Park in Loudoun County have prompted an eleventh-hour
effort to halt construction of 10 houses in the Potomac Crossing
development.
It began last month when Rene Dennis was walking in the woods
behind his home on Sage Hill Farm and saw ribbons tied to the trees
near the trench, which was built as a fallback position for
Confederate troops defending Ball's Bluff from Union troops coming
across the river.
