A PLAGUE of "woolly bear" carpet beetles is munching its way through some of the capital's most exclusive addresses, according to pest controllers.

The insect, known as the varied carpet beetle Anthrenus verbasci, thrives on only the best and most luxurious natural carpet and fabrics, and leaves thousands of pounds worth of devastation to rare items in its wake.
