Johnson Outlines DC Air Vision; BET Founder Sees Profit in Marketing an 'Engaging' City

Black Entertainment Television founder Robert L. Johnson yesterday laid out his vision for creating a new airline that would attract tourists and business travelers by marketing a trip to Washington as "an emotionally engaging experience."

And the 58-year-old entrepreneur who built a small television company into a multimedia entertainment empire dismissed skepticism about the economic prospects of DC Air, the carrier he plans to create as a spinoff from the proposed merger of United Airlines and US Airways.

"This will be a viable airline that will be profitable," Johnson said during a meeting ...
