FOR the Jewish New Year this weekend the families have decided to
stay on the kibbutz at Merom Golan, on the high plateau close to the
Syrian border. "Usually we go to the coast," says Eron Glick, one of
the settlers, "but this year no one wanted to."
Most believe that by next October, the deal could have been done
and the land of Golan could be returned to Syria, which will mean
most of the 40 Jewish settlements and kibbutzim will go.
