There's No Place Like Home; Stanislavsky to Lease Church Street Theater

The Stanislavsky Theater Studio will take over operation of the Church Street Theater in August, moving into the prime Dupont Circle venue at 1742 Church St. NW on a three-year lease.

This will give the young troupe, founded barely three years ago by former Soviet emigres, a high-profile downtown home. It will also end the Church Street Theater's life as a week-to-week rental space. The small (125-seat) off-Broadway-style house, built in 1905 as a private school gymnasium, became New Playwrights' Theatre in the 1970s and '80s and an auditorium-for-hire in the 1990s.
