GUARDIAN Royal Exchange is to move out of the Royal Exchange building, one of the City's best-known landmarks.

GRE has inhabited the property for more than 200 years and it has become synonymous with the insurance group. However, GRE's new owner, French financial giant Axa, believes Royal Exchange is surplus to requirements.

Axa, the biggest insurance company in the world, feels the sumptuous property is not suited to the group's image. Royal Exchange, with its air of old-fashioned grandeur, is thought particularly inappropriate, given the intensely competitive nature of the insurance market. ...
