Stoke Newington is part of the larger property boom in north
London whose epicentre is in Islington, but the place has a genuine
ambience and identity of its own.
"When I first came to London in the early 1980s I lived in Stoke
Newington, and it was nothing like it is today," says estate agent
Iain Currie of Thomson Currie. "It was run down and it wasn't safe to
walk the streets at night. Now it is alive with privately-owned
