Scientists See Threat To Ball's Bluff Stream; Findings Part of Development Impact Study

Hiking along a wooded nature trail in Ball's Bluff Regional Park near Leesburg this spring, the George Washington University scientists were cataloguing plants and photographing tree canopies when they came across a scene that they described as nature gone awry.

The path of a stream flowing through the park had changed in recent months: Water that once had veered around one side of a tree now coursed around it on either side. Erosion on the stream bank was so severe that the bank was being undercut.
