Could the problems schools have with boys be solved by something
as simple as sitting them next to girls? It's now a truism that boys
as a whole are more disruptive in class and generally do worse in
exams than girls. At Notley High School in Essex, however, this
pattern has been changing for the better, ever since they began
telling the children where they should sit.
John Hartley, the headteacher, explained: "A couple of years back
