ANA RICARDA was a Spanish dancer who was not Spanish (although there was Spanish blood on her mother's side) and whose name was not Ana Ricarda. She had a rigorous knowledge of Spanish culture, though, and as a dancer and choreographer she devoted her life to Spanish dance. Her speciality was escuela bolera, a hybrid and extremely difficult dance form, unfamiliar outside Spain, which fuses the castanets and upper body of Spanish folk dance with the steps of classical ballet.
