Brice Marden is an easy painter to like, and, for that reason, just as easy a one not to. Walk into the Serpentine Gallery's show of his latest work and you'll be either charmed or annoyed, according to your temper. If charmed, it will be by the apparent ease of Marden's multi- million-dollar canvases: 20 or so largeish works, produced since the 62- year-old New Yorker abandoned what might loosely (if not entirely correctly) be called "Minimalism" back in the late 1980s. If irked, it will be by precisely the same thing.
