Fire Damages House Committee Office

A fire damaged an office of the U.S. House Committee on the Budget in the Cannon Office Building last night, U.S. Capitol Police said.

The fire, which was spotted about 8 p.m. by an officer on routine patrol, destroyed a bookcase and a trash can, said Lt. Dan Nichols. He said that no one was in the office at the time and that the cause of the fire had not been determined.
