Hushed, plaintive indie-rock that sometimes builds to a roar is not a new concept, and indeed some tastemakers have declared the whole genre dead. The Pacific Ocean's Edward Baluyut and Connie Lovatt haven't been dissuaded, however. In fact, each musician is in two bands that brood and explode: Guitarist-singer Baluyut is a member of Versus (where he plays drums) and bassist-singer Lovatt plays in Containe with another Versus member, Fontaine Toups.
