Remains of the London that Boadicea burnt to ground are found by Tower

THE CHARRED remains of the first city of London, burned to the ground by the rebel British tribal ruler, Queen Boadicea, almost 2,000 years ago, have been discovered in a massive archaeological excavation just 400 metres north-west of the Tower of London.

A layer of burnt building debris, up to 30 centimetres thick, covered much of the site near Fenchurch Street in the City, and excavations are likely to provide the most detailed evidence yet of the intensity of the destruction.
