WHERE GUERRILLA armies used to fight, lions, elephants and giraffes will soon roam as vast areas of southern Africa, one of the world's richest repositories of wildlife, are transformed into cross- border nature reserves dubbed "peace parks".

Man-made barriers have already been taken down between the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana and the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa, creating a game reserve bigger than Belgium. Agreement has been reached for a second "peace park"...
