JOAN OF Arc was a woman. There is no doubt about that. That this
fact coincided with medieval legends which had foretold of "a virgin
who would rise from the land of Lorraine" to save France or that
"France would be ruined through a woman [thought to refer to Isabeau
of Bavaria, Queen of France, who had been instrumental in getting her
ailing royal husband to name Henry V as his heir to the throne], and
afterwards would be saved by a woman", may have influenced some of
her contemporaries to follow or fear her.
Yet, in military concerns, such legends only had limited effect;
