Contemporary Music has dropped the term "Festival". Instead, these
performances bring us everything usually lacking in the discreet
programme planning which characterises music in Oxford. This autumn's
offerings began with an extremely accomplished one-off performance at
the Playhouse of Thomas Ades's opera Powder her Face and continued
over the weekend with Terry Riley giving us a "Taste of India" and,
on Sunday night, a remarkable orchestral premiere by John Woolrich.
