South Korea sinks torpedo boat in Yellow Sea battle

A TENSE stand-off in the Yellow Sea exploded yesterday morning
when the South Korean navy sank a North Korean torpedo boat and
damaged several other vessels from the famine-struck Communist
nation.
The high-seas gun battle lasted only 10 minutes but shattered a
fragile peace in the Yellow Sea, which has not seen a full-blown
naval confrontation since the 1950-53 Korean War. As China, Japan
