CONSTANCE SAVERY was a prolific author of children's books over a
period of 60 years. The mixture of erudition, quiet humour and the
occasional evangelical message she brought to her work seems dated
now, but for many years she was popular in America as well as
Britain.
Still writing shortly before her death at the age of 101, she was
