David Brown accepts pounds 195m US bid

ANOTHER BRITISH engineering firm looked set to fall into American
hands yesterday after David Brown, the gears manufacturer, accepted a
pounds 195m bid from Textron, the US industrial group.
The bid, which values David Brown shares at 290p, comes just a
week after the group admitted it was in talks with a potential
bidder. The shares closed at 279.5p, up 36p.
