Anyone who enters an attractive, user-friendly, well-designed bookshop in Britain today or in the future and finds a book he or she is looking for, or even ends up buying one that he or she was not looking for, owes a debt to Terry Maher. So do the writers, publishers, agents and everyone else in the book trade who ultimately rely on the bookshop to market their product.
