Flamboyant Pontiac boss John DeLorean wanted to offer a sleek
1960s two-seat sports car called the Banshee, which would be a lower-
priced rival to General Motors popular Chevrolet Corvette. But GM
turned him down flat because it didn't want a competitor to the hot
Corvette.
DeLorean thus settled for making the 1967 Pontiac Firebird. It was
a racier--and better--version of the original Chevrolet Camaro, which
