Taj Mahal mall plan stirs outrage
|
NEW DELHI Plans to surround the Taj Mahal with cybercafes, fast-
food restaurants and a mall have provoked outrage in India among
traditionalists who fear the destruction of one of the remaining
wonders of the world.
The development is part of a deal signed by the Indian government
last week with the Taj Group, the country's largest hotel chain, to
renovate and "upgrade" the Taj Mahal.
The palace at Agra, 120 miles east of Delhi, was built in 1629.
