Margolis has long career as tough law enforcement officer

It's not easy being in the eye of the storm. But it's a comfortable place for Jeremy Margolis, who may be Gov. Ryan's closest adviser.

Margolis, who reportedly talks with Ryan every day, returned to the media spotlight nearly two years ago, beginning with his report that found no evidence of license corruption under Ryan in the secretary of state's office.

With Margolis' reputation as a hard-nosed law enforcement officer, the report helped Ryan win the governor's office. Then federal officials started indicting Ryan's former employees for taking bribes to issue driver's licenses.
