A rib shack tradition is to throw a bone over the shoulder to honor the departed. The bones will point to the heavens this weekend at Lem's Bar-B-Q House, 5914 S. State. Myles Jones Lemons, the founder of Lem's, died Thursday at the Renaissance Care Center in Chicago. He was 76.

In the 1960s, Lem's was a favorite eatery for soul singers Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke. More recently, boxer Mike Tyson stopped by Lem's for chicken and hot links, and promoter Don King bought the entire house a round of ribs.

"Lem was a jokester," said nephew William Lemons, who owns Lem's on State Street.
