446 German Expressionist prints go to Milwaukee

A Chicago couple will give 446 German Expressionist prints, valued at about $8 million, to the Milwaukee Art Museum, adding weight to an already strong German art collection in an institution now in the midst of a major expansion.

Since the late 1960s, Marcia and Granvil Specks have amassed works by artists who are icons of Expressionism, the movement that erupted from social crisis in the early 20th century and insisted on inner reality over objectivity.

The Specks collection includes print masterpieces created from the 1890s to the 1930s by Kathe Kollwitz, Lyonel Feininger, George Grosz, ...
