Bodhi Day marks enlightenment
|
About 1,500 years ago, 29-year-old Siddharta Guatama set out from
his home in Kapilavastu, Nepal, to search for the meaning of life.
After six years of living on the banks of the Nairanjana River
with five ascetics, Guatama still hadn't found the answers he was
looking for. So he went off by himself, sat under a tree and fasted
for a week.
On the eighth day, Guatama received enlightenment-four truths that
would become the foundation for Buddhism.
Today, Mahayana Buddhists celebrate Bodhi Day, the day Guatama
