Edwin Baron, war veteran, hypnotist

Edwin L. Baron stumbled across hypnosis during college while studying psychology.

Years later, while he was fighting in World War II, Mr. Baron used hypnosis to ease his fellow soldiers' anxieties about the war.

When he returned in 1947, Mr. Baron opened an office on Michigan Avenue that eventually became the Hypnotism Institute of Chicago. According to his family, it is one of the oldest schools of its kind in America.

Mr. Baron died Friday of heart failure. He was 90.
